Returning back to Singapore

It's been scarcely a year since my last trip to Singapore, the city where I was born, and the changes are striking, both in the cityscape and within me. The journey with Singapore Airlines, which I regard as the finest airline for its impeccable service and well-maintained aircrafts, was a delight. I flew premium economy and there was plenty of space for my bubble tea and me.

Landing early, it took me just ten minutes to breeze through immigration and retrieve my luggage. My parents were already waiting for me at the arrivals gate, a warm welcome that's always appreciated.

Key Tips for Travelling to Singapore:

  1. Pre-Arrival Preparations: Utilise the myICA app to submit your foreign arrival card before landing. This handy app allowed me to bypass the queues at Immigration, a real-time-saver. Also get your passport ready so it’s easy to get through the electronic gates.

  2. Security Awareness: Despite Singapore's stellar reputation for safety, it's wise to be vigilant about your belongings. The bustling environment, especially around attractions like Jewel at Changi, can be a hotspot for the occasional pickpocketer. I think this is the case for EVERY major city airport.

  3. Connectivity in Changi: Changi Airport offers free WiFi, which is a bonus if you're without a roaming SIM. In my case, my UK-based EE service failed to cover Singapore, so I opted for a local SIMBA sim card. At $10 for a month's worth of data, it's a steal for those who primarily use internet-based communication like WhatsApp or Facetime.

  4. Transport After Landing: The taxi queues might look daunting, but they're surprisingly efficient. Alternatively, apps like Grab and Zig are great for booking rides but head to the ride-hail queue areas, as you cant be picked up where the main taxi queue is.

  5. Culinary Adventures: For a taste of Peranakan cuisine at Changi, Violet Oon's establishment in Jewel is a must-visit.

My First Morning Back:

By 8.15am, after dropping off my bags at my parent's place, we're ready to embrace the warm Singaporean morning with a hearty breakfast. My choice? A bowl of fishball noodles – mee pok with soup – spiced up with a bit more chilli than intended. My mother brings over a large cup of fresh soybean milk, a comforting reminder of being home. But of course, I needed a strong brew of kopi (coffee) to help me wake up.

At 8.17am, amidst enjoying my breakfast, the inevitable question arises about my immediate plans for the trip.

By 8.25am, I've wrapped up my meal and decide to maintain my fitness routine by signing up at the local gym. I've been committed to a health programme with my PT, Lucy, for the past four months, and I'm determined to keep up the momentum, believing it's the best way to beat jet lag.

By 9.30am, I'm in the gym, feeling quite pleased with myself for managing a full hour's workout. However, by 10:45am, the exhaustion hits, and I'm on the brink of dozing off. Still, I push through, deciding to refuel with some delicious fare at down in my local Bedok Mall.

What shall I order first?
